Changes, changes, changes

So the first change is that my blog has moved from Microsoft Spaces.  They stopped their service so I had to convert.  So welcome!

Many of you know we made the decision to move out of our home in Escondido in January and move in with my parents.  This served two purposes for us.  First, it allowed us to recognize a significant savings.  Secondly, and most importantly, Garrett will be able to start Kindergarten in August at a great school in the Poway district.  What is really cool is that its the school he'll be going to is the same one I went to for 5th grade.  He thinks that's pretty cool too.  The move has been an adjustment for us all.  My dad has had to give up a lot of his precious man cave space, my mom was kind enough to sacrifice her home office for my scrap room.  We've given up having our own space, and had to adjust to going into our house and seeing my in-laws belongings instead of ours.  You see they're renting from us now.  I've gained about an extra hour each day via a shorter commute.

Garrett started going to ESS which is the after school program at his school.  He loves it but is struggling with sticking to the new, and stricter rules.  I'm looking at it as an opportunity for him to adjust to these rules before starting kindergarten.  I still can't believe I'm even saying that.  How is it that I already have an almost 5 year old?  He says some of the funniest things.  The other day I told him that I wanted to show him some photos of the most beautiful child I'd ever seen.  He was curious and when I showed him the photos from a shoot he did in 2007 he said "Mommy, that looks a lot like me"  I told him it was him and he said "Oh, I am SO going to kiss myself" and began kissing his photos in the album.

The other night after swim lessons he decided to dump some blue finger paint on the concrete in the back yard.  I grabbed the hose to clean it up and decided to spray him with the hose.  He giggled, and walked off.  A few minutes later he came back downstairs and I asked him what he'd been doing.  He laughed and said "I went into your room and laid down on your side of the bed and got it all wet!"  Little turkey!

So he is loving swim lessons.  We weren't too sure the first night because he refused to get into the pool and cried the entire lesson.  The 2nd night he got in the pool, but cried in between his turns with the teacher.  After that day he can't wait to get in.  I pick him up from ESS and he asks if it is time to go to swim lessons because he is "so excited".  He's working on his ice cream scoopers (aka the crawl), front and back floats, and is doing really good with those.  He's been through 7 lessons and is floating on his back on his own.  Yay!  As a former swimmer I am so excited that he's so into it.

I don't know how often I'll update this blog.  I'd like to do it more often than I did the last blog.  I hope you'll "follow" me.

Enjoy!

Kierstin
